What is Radioligand Therapy?
Radioligand Therapy (RLT) is an advanced treatment that targets cancer cells with precision, delivering a small dose of radiation directly to the cells. What is Radioligand Therapy?
Radioligand Therapy (RLT) is an advanced treatment that targets cancer cells with precision, delivering a small dose of radiation directly to the cells. RLT is especially effective in treating cancers that have specific markers on their surface, such as certain types of prostate cancer. This precision therapy offers new hope for patients who need a more focused and targeted treatment option.
Unlike standard radiation therapy, which can impact both cancerous and healthy cells, RLT is designed to selectively target cancer cells. The medication used in RLT carries a small amount of radiation and is specifically designed to seek out cancer cells by attaching to unique markers on their surface.
Once the radioligand connects to a cancer cell, it releases radiation directly into the cell, destroying it from within. This precise targeting reduces damage to nearby healthy cells.
Because RLT is highly targeted, it spares much of the surrounding healthy tissue. Patients who receive this therapy often report fewer side effects than those who undergo other forms of cancer treatment, allowing for a better quality of life throughout their treatment journey.
