What is Radioligand Therapy?

Radioligand Therapy (RLT) is an advanced treatment that targets cancer cells with precision, delivering a small dose of radiation directly to the cells. This cutting-edge approach helps treat certain types of cancer by sparing healthy tissues and reducing the side effects typically associated with traditional treatments.

RLT is especially effective in treating cancers that have specific markers on their surface, such as certain types of prostate cancer. This precision therapy offers new hope for patients who need a more focused and targeted treatment option.

How Radioligand Therapy Works
Injection
Targeted Delivery

Unlike standard radiation therapy, which can impact both cancerous and healthy cells, RLT is designed to selectively target cancer cells. The medication used in RLT carries a small amount of radiation and is specifically designed to seek out cancer cells by attaching to unique markers on their surface.

Lungs
Precise Action

Once the radioligand connects to a cancer cell, it releases radiation directly into the cell, destroying it from within. This precise targeting reduces damage to nearby healthy cells.

General Health
Minimized Side Effects

Because RLT is highly targeted, it spares much of the surrounding healthy tissue. Patients who receive this therapy often report fewer side effects than those who undergo other forms of cancer treatment, allowing for a better quality of life throughout their treatment journey.

Who can benefit from Radioligand Therapy?

Patient

Radioligand therapy is particularly beneficial for patients with cancers that display specific markers. A common example of a marker is the Prostate-Specific Membrane Antigen (PSMA), frequently detected in certain advanced cases of prostate cancer.
